I am aware that this link will not do you much good since the forum is in slovene but it shows a rather nice analysis in Ansys DesignSpace of the effects of baseplate thicknes on thermal transfer.
Ambient temp: 30C
Heat current: 80W (an air cooler is simulated)
Convection coefficient: 50W/m^2K
