okay here's the thing, RAMBUS has a contract with Intel, and they are making sure Intel is upholding that contract. That is why Intel currently doesn't have a DDr solution, with that contract they can ONLY use rambus in their computers. So RAMBUS will only be available for Intel computers.

Now as for speed, RAMBUS will always have a faster in-order request perforance than DDR but as soon as out-of-order request are made RAMBUS bites it big, and that's because the pipeline has to flush and start over for an out-of-order request, this is a big hinderence on latency.

If RAMBUS can get their prices down and increase the pipeline on their ram, it will be far better than DDR, but BOTH have to happen before that can be true, and the odds of both happening sometime soon are slim.
