To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why it is you want to do this.

The idea offers no real advantage over conventional designs and would infact probably cause more problems.

In the case of the second pic, the whole bottom section is going to get cold. You now have to insulate a much larger area, and there is the problem of the large contact area between the bottom and the top sections.

I would definitely suggest against it.
