Well cause an athlon has a 100Mhz bus thats DDR to 200. so data can be sent on the rise and the fall of the clock, not just on the rise of the clock like on non DDR communications.

so everyMhz you increase on the athlon bus you are increasing the total speed 2 Mhz worth of data.
