why a res? just fill and bleed.

There are a number of ways to fill your system. You could even fill it (and leak test) outside the case. If you fill it by submerging it, then you can do whatever you want.

Using a res is still pretty easy - just turn the case until the res is the high point and THEN fill and bleed from there.
