I have the CSP-X2 (2 x pumps), and I tested them in series in a simple loop... criticool waterplant -> csp-x2 -> heater core ... I can't tell if the pumps are running, it's very quiet. I would only know if they were working by looking at the flow of the water or by touching the pumps. I did my test by hooking them up using a 12v DC power adaptor.

BTW, since they were in series, I did redundancy testing. I turned off 1 pump just to see what happens, and it was good. Water seems to have a good flow, of course I don't have very good ways of measuring this, I just looked at the water flow inside the waterplant res.
