I learned about impingement cooling before that but did not make the connection to apply it in watercooling.
I believe it was a TV show with some people putting in an engine for a massive container ship. It was a gigantic diesel engine and because the aluminum pistons were so large and thick, there was the threat that they would melt at the top, so they had huge holes drilled up through it where they had jets of oil spraying close to the top of the piston. This made sense to me, but I never thought of incorperating it into a waterblock.
