SMT isn't here yet in its true form. Northwood may have some minor abilities, but its just like saying the P4 is a 50% increase in speed over the P3.

Which we all know is BS, and the P3's at the same clock SLAM the P4 core. Bigger cache will only be a big advantage doing DB work or extremely memory intesive work. over 256K you wont see much of an overall increase in most apps.

the MP's dont need to be heavily coded for, and code you already have and existing will go much faster than the "special" enhancements needed for the P4 or Xeons...

SMT or not, if you aren't running some big Oracle server, or some big Term Services/Citrix server, you wont see a 1/10th of the added performance they are hype'n.

For practical power that you can USE, AMD or the Tualatins are the only options.
