I have a 47000+ serial number on mine. I was able to upgrade the OS, but only after I had changed the hardware version from it's original 0.0.0 to 2.0.0. Now my issue is trying to get it to actually work with my home Windows 2000 Active Directory domain. I've gotten it to where it lists domain users for setting up shares. However, it doesn't show up in the browse of Entire Network in Windows XP or 2000, and when I try to map to it's shares, only if I use the Administrator login does it go through. Otherwise I get a response that it's no longer available.

This may be an issue with my server, though. I'm in the process of building a new machine with Windows Server 2003, so we'll soon see if that makes a difference.

With 2000's I have found that the 1.1 HW models will only see ATA/100 drives; I made a 60GB out of a 8GB I bought on Ebay. The Quantum models seem to see ATA/133 drives as a maximum of 130GB; I just made two 260GB 2000 or mysely and friends. They are both running the latest version of the SW from snap appliances.

I have found a major problem with Meridian 2000's that are roughly below 37000 in serial number. I have wasted two of these trying to upgrade the O/S to the latest release from the website. Both reported that the upgrade was successful, but they will not announce themselves on my network and I can not find them with snap assist. No one seems to know what to do. I have even reflashed the BIOS with a copy from the website but they will not wake up. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? I could really use some help here.

So, in a nutshell, I would buy a 2000 that is quantum branded (most are > 37K in S/N) and you should be fine. Jumper both disks as Master (2.0HW have 2 IDE Channels) and it OS should see the drives and format them (to 130GB). 1.0 HW models need to be jumpered Master and Slave, and be ATA/100.

I'm still looking for the answer to the mysterious Meridian 2000 question.

Good Luck!
