More often than not the vast majority of parts used in the construction of an automobile are proprietary to a maker...you know this Bill. While an automaker may contract for blow molding, for let’s say a heater duct, the part was still designed by the auto maker and remains proprietary to that automaker. Thus the automaker is still the OEM and any parts licensed to third parties are aftermarket parts

Don't you think that is more a description of what AMG did when they were a separate company from Daimler? Certainly AMG didn't make Mercedes but they did make them a better car and it would be a great leap to say AMG at that time was an OEM.

I don’t think so, take the DDC for instance. No liquid cooling kit supplier had a hand in the DDC deployment or production and Laing is the OEM for the DDC regardless of who puts it in their kit. And you and I know this is painfully true, as was demonstrated.
