are you sure your drive is NOT an ata-133? I tried the maxtor (there are others) and got pretty much that same result. I've heard others using Samsung drives but if the drive is ata-133, there is a utility to run that steps the drive down to ata-100. I used the WD which is ata100 out of the box and it was fine.

Since I read that everyone was having trouble useing maxtor, all I have tried was WD
