OK, sorry for all this!

Could the reason for the mnfr saying the PSU is unsuitable for motors and lightbulbs be because these devices want a higher current to start up? This way, if you were running a 5A motor or 5A lightbulb, it may require more than the 7A surge which the PSU is capable of delivering?

If this is the reason, then my pumps are rated for 2.4A continuous and maybe 4A startup. The PSU is rated for 3A continuous and 7A surge, so it should be fine.

I just gave it a 0.28A load and the ripple looked like it peaked at +40mV and dipped at -20mV.

Surely this is fine?
