Well, I got the replacement pump today

Must've come straight out of a pond.

Much cleaning of scum later, the pump looks better. I could see from the replacement one, that the shaft on my broken one seemed OK

so I put my "broken" one back to gether and it worked first time. It wasn't broken at all!!

So now I've got a spare 1250! Anyone need a pump?
