IMHO
retapping is a very
bad idea. The British expression "bodge" comes to mind

I'm hoping that they at least use a fixture to ensure the tap is exactly parallel with the existing hole - and that they line up the two starting threads so it's not set up to auto-cross-thread. Of course, with NPT the first engagement point isn't necessarily the first thread, so maybe this is a non-issue (?)
Then there's the whole issue of trying to seal through thread deformation - with likely malformed threads (depending on how the old and new pitches interact in that short deformation area).
Maybe supply rads to DD that aren't tapped at all?
