they do ...gas is the last part of the well to be taken ...it produces pressure so that the oil flows from the well. Once the oil flow isn't worth the trouble anymore then they produce the gas usually.

I imagine the H2 you are referring to in drilling is the H2S? That is a very corrosive and extremely poisonous gas. Smells like rotten eggs.
