Thank you blue68f100, you are truly a wealth of information!

Way back early on in the thread the poster also gave the debug command to reformat the newly installed drive to its full capacity. In my case, it worked just fine, I do have full drive capacity.

Thank you also for the information on the v4 OS. So I take it that is required for drives >137Gig. Not a problem, I will just stick with 120Gig size max.

Also, the software I have is version .805; I had a hard time re-finding it again after Adaptec bought out Snap Appliance. I had that software before, but deleted it when I upgraded a couple of our other Snaps. Anyway, I ended up retrieving it again from a cached page of Snap Appliance LOL, but I don't think its there anymore.

Since the 2000 uses software RAID as well, you are really tempting me to try out the 1000 with a pair of mobile 7200rpm drives, although that is kind of an expensive experiment. I can get the single WD RE 120 Gig drive for about $90 shipped. The two mobile drives will cost probably 3 times that much.

Ahh.....decisions, decisions....But it would be kind of cool to have a RAID Snap server in such a tiny package.

As far as performance, we just used them as simple file servers. In my case I am using them in the same fashion, but with FTP capabilities, so performance isn't a major concern, but I do have to ask...

In the end, isn't the speed of the server bottlenecked but its 10/100 network connection?

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!
