thanks for reply. sorry didn't visit this for a while. i'm still running my snap with 4 300 gb drives, but use 3 in raid 5 and keep 1 as hot spare. haven't figured out why it was taking so long. i do have maxtor 300gb ata-133 drives so maybe thats the problem. however besides the formatting, i haven't had any problems.
