Dangerden MAZE2 Modification?

Hello people

I'm in the middle of my water cooling project, and I want to use my MAZE2 (no peltier) on m Tbird 1400, but I have a smaller tower case, and not much room above my CPU, my CPU is actually behind!! my PSU.

For this reason, the barbs on the DD maze2 are two long, and any hose I use will not have enough room to bend. My idea is to remove the straight barbs on the maze2, and replace them with 90deg elbows-to-3/8 barbs that I assembled from Home Depot parts (and teflon tape). Any comments? My main concern is whether or not I can remove the original barbs. Are they only screwed in tightly to the block (in which case a pipe wrench and clamp will probably suffice), or are they soldered/fixed to the copper block in some other manner?

Thanx for your expertise, this is a great forum
