The OS is stored on the HD's. Upgrading drives in the 2200, require the unit to be in RAID1. Then you swap the drives out one at a time. The unit should copy the os over. Or you can use dd to copy the boot tracks to the new drives. Then reformat the drives to use the full disk. If you are going to upgrade the OS do it before the swap.
