OK, after the third reboot I found the problem. The OS 2.6.050 boots into a maintenace mode after a reset. On the page is a link to a secondary page where one can chose which option to reset.
Like the admin password.
Clicking that check-button and restarting the server resulted in the desired effect, the admin account is now usable again...

So if someone should know how to upgrade from OS2.6 to OS4, please give me a hint...
