As far as making your o-ring... many swimming pool/spa places have kits where you can take one of a larger circumference, cut to size, and use included "welding cement" to join. I've used this method in plumbing and spa/pool repairs... and have never had a "bad" make. I'm sure computer water cooling pressures are no more then either of the afore mentioned applications.

As far as grooving... can't really help you there... cnc or good hand done milling seems to be the only good way. Oh, and your right... a true tight 90 degree turn isn't feasible... sounds like a guarenteed leak.
