Not saying make a simple timer and Solonid to push the button would not work. It's just alot of trouble for simple function.

I don't think he's talking about using a solenoid...just a simple timer and a relay to electrically complete the same circuit as pushing the power button would do.
I'm with you on the UPS thing....I have a matrix UPS 5000 in the basement...maybe a little overkill, but I got it for free
