I'm new on the forum and still researching (about 2 hours into it so far and still reading!) but I thought I'd post this sooner rather than wait till the end of my reading.
I've just acquired a 2000 with a high serial number (56xxx) but no software. There's nothing wrong with it, I just don't know how to access it. I'm on my W2K3 controller and when I first plugged it in, my dhcp server gave it an address. But due to a fault network cable I couldn't ping it or anything. I replaced the cable, have powercycled the box several times, but it doesn't seem to be asking for an address any more and I can't "find" it on the network via ping.
The System light blinks steadily about once a second (perhaps slightly faster than that), and the link light is green and steady. The Net light blinks erratically, as a network light should. The disk light goes on at the start for a bit, and a couple of times after that, and I can hear it spin. So I think the unit's fine (there's no reason it wouldn't be afaik). I just want to start using it!
Can someone send me whatever files you think I'd need to actually use this thing? I'd like to upgrade the disks (the label says it's 80GB) and the opsys etc, but first thing's first - just accessing it.
I tried surfing to the address that the dhcp server gave it, but as I said with the faulty cable that didn't work, and since replacing the cable I'm not seeing it via ping. Is there some clever way to tell it to do an IP address refresh/request?
Files would be appreciated, and of course I'll continue reading this forum for edification, illumination, and instruction!
