Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?

Just to clear some info about the 1+2 LED problem. This will also occur if the new drive has incorrect jumper settings (master/slave/cable select) Different versions of the OS handle different jumper setting. Normally on the 1000 to 2200 series the setting should be master on all drives, even if you mod a 1000 to handle 2 drives.

And regarding to the boot rom and exchange drives without clone or copy your originally drive. This is only apply on the Quantum & some versions of the Snap Appliance units. None of the units from Adaptec's takeover uses the os on Flash/rom.

Also there is a restriction on how large disk you can use in different revision's
Rev1 handle up to 130GB drives without any serious modification's
Rev2 handle atleast 250GB drives, have not tested with larger yet on this.
Rev2.1 Handle atleast 400GB drive without modifications to hardware

The easiest way to expand your drive in the snap is just to clone the orignally drive with EG. Winhex or similar, you only need to copy the first 23658793 Sectors of the drive. (this contains the os part)
Exchange the drive boot it up (remember to change jumpers if needed)
it will show up as a failed drive. Enter the Debug page
http://snapserverxxxx/config/debug

the commands here depends a bit on model and how many drives you are using.
to check the physical adress of your drive use the command "in de" without the ""

then to max out the new size on the drive just type:
co de fo 10000 /reinit /nocore
or in full text, same command as above:
config debug format 10000 /reinit /nocore

The 10000 in this example is the physical adress for one drive it can be 10008 etc..
just use the IN DE command tho check it out.

These are my exp at the moment.
