It could be one of the disks (or maybe more) has factory lowlevel format set so that the full 60GB is not available.

At work I have had three disks failures out of 5 boxes - Snap always send a 80GB disk to replace the bust 60GB drive that came with the unit - but after rebuilding the RAID, only 60GB is used.
