further investigation(cracking it open like an egg) reveals it to be an Intel based motherboard made by meridian which host chipsets by smsc and issi, there are no promise chipsets on the MB, it has a third IDE connector as well as a serial connector, I think I could probably throw the extra HDs on it if I bump up the power, but currently it doesn't have near enough power to add even one more.
