Adaptec's position in the US is clear enough, and has been posted here many times. Adaptec's position in Europe is not necessarily the same.
I contacted Adaptec's European Support with a SnapOS problem. No warranty, no contract. They wouldn't help fix the unit without 'entitlement', but they did send me a link from where I could download a 4.0.860 Full Install. The file I got - for free, because I asked - will upgrade a V3 installation to V4.0.860. It's legitimate, and it works.
Now, it's quite possible that Adaptec have tightened up in Europe recently. It's also possible that with 350million people, Europe is a more important place than the US.
