NOPE. Will not work that way.

The snap is built on BSD. You must copy the OS from the original HD to the New one. You can try to coping the OS from the failed drive using Digital Dolly to the new one. You only need 15-25 meg for the OS to boot. Other wise you will require an image file to restore the snap to a working unit.
