Unplug the fan and start the computer and see if video comes up. If it does your good to go and turn the comp off and re-plug it in. If no video then probably will not work. As long as the heat sink is attached you won't fry the card. If worried point a fan at the card during the test.

Pretty good chance the 4 pins are for RPM monitoring for voltage adjustment so the card can turn the fan down and up as needed. My Radeon X1950Pro runs at 40% most of the time for example.
