I've only had that problem with really old games. Couldn't you use an emulator or something? My friend sent me this program called something like "Dual Core Patch" back when I had my Opteron 175 and it let me play (Unreal Tournament I think...) again. When I moved to intel I didn't need any patch. But at least get yourself a nice single core Opty
