Don't know if this will be of any help, but these guys have a downloadable blank image for the SNAP 1000, as well as detailed instruction on how to upgrade the drive, using a blank drive.

I don't know what version of the os that the image is, and you may run into BIOS incompatibility if it's v4 (the v4 upgrade also upgraded the BIOS on my unit). It's worth a try if you have a dead unit, though; at least it's better than using the SNAP as a doorstop.
