With Snap servers yoiu can hot swap HD that failed. Doing so will auto prepare the HD and start the re-sysnc. YOU MUST DO THE HD THAT HAS FAILED. IF YOU REMOVE THE WRONG HD THE RAID IS NOT RECOVERABLE.

If you replace the HD from a power down, you must go into the Disk utility and set the HD as a spare. Doing so will start the resysnc.

The disk utility should report which HD has failed. The replacement HD should be the same mfg/mode/size. You can always go larger but not smaller. On the 4500 the HD's should be set as Single HD or Master.

I do not like Maxtors HD they are time bomb waiting to happen. I have seen them fail with in days/weeks of each other, so don't delay in replacement.
