Default Re: 4500 RAID5 degraded

I noticed the other day my snap 4500 was degraded when i check it out
all the drive were green but the 3rd drive had no info on it (size etc)

the drives where all 160 gig EIDE unable to find an EIDE we purchased
a 160 gig PATA assuming the snap would reject it if it was not compatible

installed the drive set it to a spare and began rebuilding
around 50 60% the rebuild failed

restarted the snap began rebuilding and IT was almost finished when it failed again
this time the 1st hard drive was reporting it had failed

if it was almost finished rebuilding can i now replace the 1st drive?

not sure what is going on

also my assistant did some checking and was told the drive need to come from
snap they are telling us some software needs to be installed on the drive first

I'm not really buying that

OS version is 4.0.228

Any suggestions
