Wow! I found a 128mb stick from another snap server that was collecting dust. I put that in, and wow! It did the disk check in a matter of minutes. The drive is back up and running and it is "Rebuilding backup disk" now.
I can now access all the data on it (I'm making a backup on other storage as we speak just in case).
