Re: Largest drive in Snap 18000 and SD30SA Expansion unit
I am also keen to see what sizes have been added to an 18000....
My 18k has 8x 250GB's, not sure I would go larger than 8x 1TB's personally, I would have trouble using half of it in the next 3 years...
8x 1TB's would make for 6.447TB Useable Approx. in Raid 5 (or 5.526TB in Raid 5 + hotspare)
Either way it would be a bit over overkill for me...
Can we confirm;
1 - The only real limitation for 520/620 + S50 SNAPS apart from 88 Physical HDD's apparently is 16tb being the maximum Volume sizes... you can make many arrays and you can join separate volumes to counter that but you cannot go larger then 16TB for a volume...
2 - One should not RAID more than 12 Drives in one hit as rebuild times are a killer, I have heard that "6x drives is best for ensuing rebuild time of less than 12 Hours
I have never sold more than 40x drives in one system but back then they were 500GB's and as you are supposed to avoid Raid-ing or Volume-ing across physical units we did not encounter the issue...
Not sure if there are hardware issues with SD30's 15000's, 14000's etc but the only limitation the SD30 has is that you could only daisy chain 3x SD30's to a snap... that's 48 HDD's not including the head unit...
