There IS a recovery program you can use to access the hard drive called UFS Explorer. I have used UFS Explorer and it worked for me. The SnapOS is a modified BSD OS having a UFS. You can try Linux, but I don't think it will work. Check out the link below which will give you some knowledge and put you on a good path.

Can you unmount and then mount the drive without getting the "dduQuietAllDevices" ?
conf dev unmount
conf dev mount
