I have a hard time finding 1/4"NPT x 1/2" barbs locally, and even when you can find them you have to bore them out because the 1/4" NPTs have a smaller ID than the other fittings. I am on a quest to get as little restriction as possible through the tubing and the fittings of my setup, because I want to move down to a smaller, cheaper pump (using an Eheim 1250 now) and still get excellent flow.

To accomplish this, I am still using 1/2" ID silicone tubing but 5/8" fittings on my setup where posssible. The 5/8" fittings are GREAT because they really are snug with the silicone so there is no need for clamps. Also their ID is very close to 1/2" so you should get slightly better flow through the system. Anyway, I REALLY like the 5/8" fittings. The only problem is the waterblock.

I am not aware of any block that will take 3/8" NPT fittings, and for that matter I can't think of a block with channels that are wide enough for me to tap out the top and not end up with part of the fitting hitting metal instead of channel. Does anyone know of a block that would suit my needs or that could effectively be modded that way?
