Default Question about restrictions

Lets say I have a Mag drive 250GPH and a Maze2 with 3/8" fittings. I also have a large radiator that was pulled out of some old car, got it from my buddy (not sure of sizes on its fittings) Now, my question is, would it be a complete waste to use 1/2" tubing in this setup?

Also, I heard that the Mag drive has a 1/2" fitting and a 3/8" fitting and that you should (according to the guy at the pet store) "never run it smaller than its fitting; it will burn it up" i.e. don't put 3/8" tubing on it since it has a 1/2" fitting? Is this true?

Ok I'm gonna come clean, what actually happened was I bought the pump, got the radiator from my friend, and then absent mindedly bought the waterblock with the 3/8" fittings instead of the 1/2" fittings that I wanted.

I'm planning on putting this setup on my newly ordered 1.2 Tbird and taking it to 1.5Ghz.
  • Is it a complete waste to use 1/2" tubing since the ID on some of my other pieces are 3/8"?
  • Will the pump "burn up" if I DON'T put the 1/2" tubing on it?

Thanks in advance,
Jason
