the water leve dropping could be due to air bubbles in the lines. As air is removed water takes its place and the level goes down.

Also those hoses do give off a slight odar that should go away with time (I beleive) I have had to consitantly add coolant to my system as well, as it was recently re done. if the smell is a problem for you, then a foam insolation covering might help that. But there in is another problem. The foam has a distinctive odor as well.

if U have no water under the case or inside it, and it is all inside the case then there prolly isnt a water leak, one thing to do is place paper towls around everything in the water passage, wrap the hoses, with bunches around the fittings and hose clamps (ALWAYS USE HOSE CLAMPS)

and under the case and inside the case, and observe if they soak up any water over a couple of days.
