Thought this would be a good time to get me feet wet, so to speak. I think you'd get some use out of adobe Streamline. Converts bitmap graphics to vector. I believe the site has a free trial version http://www.adobe.com/products/streamline/main.html

Or, go ghetto and import into Flash, then use the trace bitmap command. I'm pretty sure you can then export as an illustrator file.
