The water would be slower with a larger bore size. But if you decrease the width of the chanels you can still have the same flow velocity with a larger surface area (useable). Plus the base should bve quite thick for heat spreading, I can't remember the optimal value for a maze2 size block on a tbird but it was around 1/2 inch in copper, more on Al. But that would make it too heavy for me.
