I look at it this way...
You all copied the guy who invented the concept of a spiral!! So stick it! *sarcasm*
But seriously, you have a small area in which to pass water through. There aren't that many shapes that are effective. I bet you when I get finished with my waterblock; which is of a design of which I've never seen; someone will tell me that I copied it from ______.
I don't wish to really defend Gemini here, but his block is different. His, I would say, would target more of the "I know I want a waterblock, and this one looks neat, so I'll get it" where as the Spir@l targets more of the "I wonder how big of a pelt I can shove under here?". I only say this due to a size/flow factor of the blocks.
I, personally, wouldn't get either, because there doesn't seem (to my simple mind) that there is enough turbulance within the block. But hey, I still haven't built my system, so what do I know
