Solder is plenty strong for the blocks just getting an even heat across the large surfaces is something I have not done or needed to do before.

Interesting, though as EMC2 said copper/copper can be brazed. Brazing is routinely used in underground copper water piping where a stronger bond than standard solder is necessary .
