I'm going to outline the whole story from start to finish.
December, 2001 I get interested in REALLY water cooling my computer, not just dreaming of it. I order a bunch of parts to do it, and at this time I contracted Una to build and ship to me a small resivor of 4"x4"x2" with 5/8" barbs and a fill hole for the sum of $20.
January 2002, Una claims he sent a reisvor to me. He says that he did not use delivery confirmation. The resivor never arrived here, and after submitting a complaint to the post office, they find no record of any package coming from Una to be delivered to me. At the time, I passed it off as the post office jerking off.
After this, Una explained to me that he was having financial problems, but he still insisted that he had sent the resivor, and that he is of his word and he would make a second one and ship it to me, because I paid for a resivor, so I should get one.
I understood his situation and because Una is my friend, I let him go at his own pace, and get the resivor to me when he could. At the end of March, Una tells me that he sold one of his two cars, and that he had money to make me the resivor and would get it off to me ASAP. This was great because I had just ordered the maze3. I ask him to "please hurry because I have a bunch of stuff coming and I would like to be able to do all the mods at once." He says he would.
About a week later, he says he shipped it to me WITH delivery confirmation. But does not supply the confirmation #. That's OK, because I really only wanted the confirmation # so that USPS would not lose it. A week passes, and Una would log on for one second and off again. Still no resivor. I set an alert on Una's name so that I can know when he comes on and ask him for the confirmation # so I can get after USPS.
Throughout the next two weeks, Una logs on and off extremely fast, and frequently. I would send him an IM, one line, and he would be gone. He would never respond to any of the IM's, and he never seemed to show up in the IRC channel any more.
Finally, yesterday, I spoke with Joe, asking him if he knew where Una was, and I told him that I got the feeling that he was avoiding me. I explained the situation to Joe, and he said he would contact him and ask him what was going on. As well as sending him net messages to stop avoiding me.
Later that night at around 11pm, I did manage to get Una to talk to me. I asked him for the confirmation #, and he said he would get it for me, but then mysteriously logged off instantly. Even later that night at around 4:30am, Una logs on and IM's me the somewhat incriminating message "Don't you ever sleep?" He then immediately logged off. I was REALLY getting annoyed at this point because this was a clear signal to me that he really was avoiding me.
This brings us to today. I was unaware that Joe had sent Una an email (or two, or three, I really don't know) asking una what was going on, and issuing an ultimatum to explain to him (Joe) the situation and make things right. Joe did not receive a response from Una and booted him off of ProCooling.
Joe informs me of this on IRC at around 12pm EST. I read the front page, and about 10 minutes later Una IM's me, rather cryptically asking if I had a DigiDoc5. I responded no, and then he responded "You will soon" and then logged off again.
I was still talking with Joe on IRC, and I relayed the exact messages to him from my IM window. Five minutes later Una IM's me again. Truthfully explaining that he didn't send the resivor, but that he did have the parts, and was going to send them to me, with the plumbers goop, and I could assemble it myself. He also stated that he would throw in some other "goodies" he had lying around. I told him I really only wanted what I paid for. Una then apologized again and said he would get the box off with the parts for the res and still throw in the other things for me.
It is now five months from the time I originally asked Una to build the resivor for me, and we come to this post, and how I'm feeling about this whole thing. I understand what hardship is, and I understand that Una was going through a hard time. I would have understood and been accomodating if he had been straightforward with me. I am disappointed that Una lied to me and dragged this on for so long. I do think that Una should realize that he was more than just "a little delayed" in getting the product to me.
Joe, I think, did overreact somewhat. He gave Una less than one day to respond to his email. I know that I tend to not respond to emails right away - sometimes emails from friends I will let sit for a few days before even reading them, unless they have a pressing topic. I don't know what Joe put for the topics of his emails, but I think less than a day is too little time. I'm not saying I don't appreciate Joe's help, because I do - I do think I can say that Joes actions got Una to talk to me, and make things right.
At this point I'm happy for me, but not happy for Una, or Joe. I like both of them, and I would think that they were friends. I know I still think of Una, and Joe as friends, and good sources of information. I'm sad that Una is not a part of ProCooling any more because I think he contributed some really good articles to the site. But that is not for me to decide, and I can only hope that Joe and Una work out their differences and can mend their friendship.
