I am the author of the article in question. Yes dual fans help. I have tried using the front fan only as well as using just the rear fan on the heater core. What I have found when using two fans in the push/pull format, is my temps are about 2c lower than using one fan. There is just too much restriction of pushing or pulling air across the heater core to use one fan. I have changed my fans from the 38mm Panaflo’s, to using 25mm Delta’s. Both fans were near equal in CFM output and were equal in dba. With the change I was able to recover about 26mm of room with the smaller fans allowing me to remove the motherboard without pulling the fan/rad/fan from the case.

One other change I made from the article was I removed the metal in front of the intake fan. In the article I had drilled a series of 1/16” holes and leaving enough metal so I could use a filter in front without the filter be sucked into the fan. I found that I was restricting air flow through the fan/rad/fan. I now have cut away all metal in front of the intake fan and replaced the metal with a fan blade guard.
