i have an iiyama monitor, which uses the Mitsubishi Diamondtron flat-CRT (it is a flat aperture grill CRT btw). the two lines are actually thin wires that are needed to stabalize the vertical grill wires. you will not notice them unless the conditions Webmasta stated are met. these two wires are on ALL aperture-grill CRTs.

if you are looking for a new monitor, iiyama, sony, viewsonic and NEC / mitsubishi would be the ones id recommend. get a flat-CRT (aperture grill) monitor as well, as they produce *slightly* sharper lines and brighter colors than shadow-mask CRTs.

also try to get the best monitor in its class (for example, if you want a 17 inch, get one with a max resolution of 1600x1200 @ 75hz or greater). its something you'll be using for years; dont skimp!!
