Ammendment:
After a little more research, the name doesn't seem to be related to die size, process, wafer size or anything like that. If anything it could be related to the introduction of new programming (i.e. SSE3, or NetBurst 2, or something of the like), but I don't have the facts to draw that pattern yet. At the moment it seems somewha arbitrary. So when Intel decides to call it the Pentium V, that's when it will no longer be the P4. :shrug:
