I have decided that even my quiet MC462 solution is too loud -- I am sure that most people would be fine with it (its probably not noticably louder than an OEM computer) little less than 40db -- but I want silence and performance.
Soooo......
I am going to be building a nearly silent water cooling setup that will be completely housed within my Directron case (basically a jet-black 1040b). Here is my plan.
I will run an Eheim 1048 Pump
www.dangerden.com/test/mall/pumps.asp -- the pump will be mounted on the floor of the case (right behind the 80mm fan mount). The pump will be bolted to the case with some B-Quiet and Sonex foam between it and the case itself. Should be inaudible. A hole will be cut in the floor of the case to allow for the pumps power cord.
Pump water to a Black Ice Radiator --
www.data-detective.com/overclock/black_ice.htm -- fastened to a 120mm x 25mm JMC fan (61cfm@27db) --
www.caseetc.com/cgi-bin/caseetc/F-378.html -- . The fan will be attached to the inside top of the case -- with the Black Ice underneath it. The Fan will pull the air through the rad and out the blow-hole I will cut in top of the case. The radiator sould fit fine, although I may need to move my CDRW and DVD drives down to the lowest two 5 1/4 slots (currently they are in the middle two).
Water block will be a Danger Den Maze 2 --
www.dangerden.com/test/images/MAZE2/MAZE2X_Large.gif
The whole case will be insulated with B-Quiet Brown Bread --
www.b-quiet.com/brownbread.html -- and Sonex Foam --
www.2cooltek.safeshopper.com/44/238.htm?370 -- .
Everything will be self-contained within the case -- and its a totally closed system. According to the people I have talked to -- it should run very cool and very quiet, while still allowing outstanding overclocks. A nice closed system.
I will continue to run 4 Silencer 80mm case fans -- 20db's (I may take these out if they prove unnecessary or loud at all). And a Panaflo 92mm L1A over on a hole over the AGP slot. The only other fans will be the North Bridge chipset fan, a Blue Orb on my GF3, and the Antec PSU fan. I don't believe any of these put out serious DB's.
Any thoughts on this setup? Any ways to make it better more quiet? I would like to hear some constuctive criticism.
BTW, my Quiet Swiftech HSF Solution --
www.forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=37&threadid=562832 -- swiftech will be on the market soon.
