Either way though the exact backpressure will vary somewhat between them. To much backpressure for the fan will cause it to stall and make a lot of turbulence noise.

Push pull increases backpressure handling but small fans don't work so well with push-pull due to the low torque of their motors. BillA did some
testing on this and found that with low flow fans they'd setup waves and stalll each other resulting in very erratic flow patterns.
