SPST single pole single toggle
two pins, and the switch lever (or button) makes them either on or off.

SPDT single pole double toggle
3 pins, and the lever makes the middle one (usually) contact either one.

DPST
(4 pins) same as SPST, it's like a double switch, but with only one lever.

DPDP double pole double toggle
(6 pins) same as SPDT, like a double switch.
